Is Jaguar Reliable? Reliability by Model, With the Studies Named
What J.D. Power, Consumer Reports, RepairPal and iSeeCars actually say about Jaguar, how it compares with BMW and Mercedes-Benz, and what the numbers mean for the car you own or are about to buy.
The short answer
Jaguar's reliability record is mixed. New Jaguars scored well for initial quality, with 175 problems per 100 vehicles in J.D. Power's 2025 Initial Quality Study against an industry average of 192, second among premium brands. Long-term data is weaker: RepairPal rates Jaguar 2.5 out of 5 with average repair costs of about $1,123 a year, and Jaguar sells in volumes too small for J.D. Power's three-year dependability study or Consumer Reports' survey to rank it at all. A well-maintained Jaguar with a clear service history is a very different proposition from one without.

Four organizations publish the reliability data shoppers and reviewers cite most. They measure different things, over different time frames, from different samples, so each figure is listed with what it actually measures.

Why the studies seem to disagree
"Second-best premium brand" and "29th of 32" can both be accurate, because they are answering different questions.
Time frame
Initial quality covers the first 90 days, when a car is new and under warranty. Repair-cost data spans cars of every age, including high-mileage examples long past warranty, where every luxury brand's costs rise.
Sample size
Jaguar sells far fewer cars in the US than BMW or Mercedes-Benz. Survey-based rankings need a minimum number of responses, which is why Jaguar drops out of the dependability study and Consumer Reports' brand list rather than scoring poorly in them.
What counts as a problem
J.D. Power counts owner-reported problems, including infotainment and usability complaints. RepairPal counts repairs and what they cost. A car can have few complaints and still be expensive when something does break.
Taken together, recent Jaguars leave the factory well built, and long-term costs out of warranty run above the all-brand average, as they do for most European luxury makes. How a specific car was maintained matters more than the badge.
Jaguar vs BMW vs Mercedes-Benz reliability
Most shoppers asking about Jaguar reliability are cross-shopping one of these two brands, so here are the same studies side by side. Lower PP100 is better; higher RepairPal ratings are better.

On initial quality, Jaguar beat both rivals in 2025. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 5th for brand reliability and calls it the most reliable European brand; it does not rank Jaguar. On three-year dependability, BMW has the strongest ranked record of the three, and Jaguar has no ranking to compare. On repair costs, all three sit well above RepairPal's all-brand average of about $652 a year. Jaguars went to the shop less often than BMWs in RepairPal's data but cost more per year when they did. Reliability by model
Model-level data for Jaguar is thin, because most studies need more owners than a low-volume brand produces. Here is what the published record supports for each current and recent model.
F-PACE
The volume model and the one with the most ownership data. Consumer Reports predicts below-average reliability for the 2025 F-PACE based on brand history rather than detailed model data. NHTSA recall 23V-045 covered 229 2023 F-PACEs for an engine oil leak with a fire risk, repaired by replacing the cam carrier. Production ended in December 2025.
I-PACE
The model with the most significant known issue: a series of high-voltage battery recalls covering 2019 through 2021 cars in particular, with interim charging limits and, for affected 2019 cars, a reacquisition remedy. Our I-PACE battery guide lists each campaign.
E-PACE
Consumer Reports has no detailed reliability data for the 2024 E-PACE because too few owners responded. With little published model-level data, the most useful reliability check on any E-PACE is its own record: completed recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov and a full service history. The 2024 model year was its last in the US.
F-TYPE and XF
Both ended production in June 2024. Neither has model-level reliability data from the major studies in recent years. For these cars, the individual vehicle's service history is the only dependable guide.

Mileage longevity is the least flattering data point for Jaguar.

The iSeeCars longest-lasting car brands study (September 2026) measures the share of each brand's vehicles that reach 250,000 miles. Jaguar recorded 0.0 percent, 31st of 33 brands; BMW recorded 0.5 percent and Land Rover 0.4 percent. Most European luxury brands sit well below the average.
Two things likely explain much of that result. Older luxury European cars often leave the road when a major repair would cost more than the car is worth, not only because they cannot mechanically keep going. And 250,000 miles is an extreme threshold that few owners of any luxury car reach. The study does not tell you how long a typical Jaguar lasts at normal mileage, and no credible published figure for that exists.
