Jaguar F-PACE vs BMW X3: Is the F-PACE Better?

The final-year 2026 F-PACE against BMW's current X3, compared on performance, efficiency, space, towing, coverage and long-term reliability data, with both trim levels side by side.

The short answer

The BMW X3 is quicker, more fuel-efficient and has a lower starting price, and BMW ranked 11th in J.D. Power's 2026 three-year dependability study, where Jaguar had too few responses to be ranked. The Jaguar F-PACE counters with more maximum cargo space (70.4 cu ft against 67.1), a higher towing rating (5,291 lb in both P250 and P400 form), and longer included coverage: 5 years or 60,000 miles of warranty and complimentary maintenance, against BMW's 4-year warranty and 3-year maintenance program. It is also the rarer choice, now sold from final inventory.

Where each one wins

The X3's advantages

  • Quicker: 6.0 seconds to 60 mph in the 30 xDrive against 6.9 for the F-PACE P250, and 4.4 in the M50 against 5.1 for the P400
  • More efficient: 29 mpg combined against 24 in base form, and 27 against 21 for the six-cylinders
  • Lower starting price, by $5,725 at original MSRP including destination
  • A ranked long-term dependability record: 11th in J.D. Power's 2026 study, where Jaguar was not ranked

The F-PACE's advantages

  • More maximum cargo space: 70.4 cu ft against 67.1
  • A higher towing rating: 5,291 lb against 4,001 lb for the 30 xDrive and 4,850 lb for the M50
  • A longer warranty and longer included maintenance
  • A V8 option in the 567-horsepower SVR
  • Final-inventory discounts, which Carscoops reported nationally in July 2026

The two are closer in size than many shoppers expect: the X3 is 0.3 inches longer, and ground clearance differs by a tenth of an inch in base form. For how equipment differs across F-PACE trims, see our F-PACE trim levels guide.

Performance, efficiency and driving feel

+5 mpgX3 30 xDrive combined advantage
0.9 secX3 0-60 advantage, base engines
0.7 secX3 M50 0-60 advantage over the P400

BMW's 48-volt mild-hybrid system on both X3 engines accounts for much of its efficiency advantage, especially in stop-and-go traffic. For a commuter covering 12,000 miles a year, the difference between 24 and 29 mpg combined is roughly 86 gallons of fuel a year. The F-PACE P400 is also a mild hybrid, pairing turbocharging with supercharging, and puts out 395 horsepower, 2 more than the X3 M50, though BMW quotes a quicker 0-60 time for the M50.

On the road, the F-PACE's Intelligent Driveline Dynamics keeps most drive at the rear, about 90 percent in normal conditions by Jaguar's figures, while BMW describes xDrive as all-wheel drive networked with its stability control. Both brands have retailers across Northern Virginia, so a back-to-back drive on the same stretch of the Dulles Toll Road is the fastest way to decide which feel you prefer. For real-world fuel figures in local driving, see our look at F-PACE real-world mpg in Virginia traffic.

If the M50 is not enough: the F-PACE SVR

The X3 range tops out with the M50 xDrive. The F-PACE goes further with the SVR, powered by a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 making 567 horsepower and 516 lb-ft, with a manufacturer 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds against the M50's 4.4. That performance costs money and fuel: its original MSRP was $93,775 including destination, about $26,000 more than an X3 M50, and it is EPA-rated at 17 mpg combined. It suits a narrow buyer, but no current X3 offers a V8, so for anyone who wants one in a compact luxury SUV, it is the only choice in this comparison. As a final-year model, remaining SVR stock varies by retailer.

Inside: screens and space

F-PACE

Pivi Pro infotainment on an 11.4-inch curved-glass touchscreen, 37.2 inches of rear legroom and 32.1 cu ft of cargo space behind the rear seats. The layout is simpler, with a single central screen.

X3

A 14.9-inch curved central display paired with a 12.3-inch driver display, running BMW Operating System 9, with 36.3 inches of rear legroom and 31.5 cu ft behind the rear seats. More screen area, slightly less rear legroom.

Figures are drawn from manufacturer, retailer and published spec listings. For a family with rear-facing car seats, the nearly one-inch rear legroom advantage in the F-PACE is worth checking in person; our guide to choosing an F-PACE for your family covers car-seat fit.

If efficiency, acceleration and ranked long-term dependability data are your top priorities, the X3 is the logical choice. If you value maximum cargo space, towing, longer included coverage and a less common SUV, and can find the configuration you want in remaining F-PACE stock, the F-PACE makes a strong case, especially at final-inventory pricing. Many buyers weighing these two are also considering the Audi Q5; our F-PACE vs Audi Q5 comparison covers that match-up.

End of F-PACE production in December 2025 does not affect warranty coverage, maintenance or service. Jaguar states its service network remains fully operational.
